one bag of assorted jolly ranchers.

Right now, I'm reading a list of what convicts in Texas asked for for their final meals before being executed. A lot of it is pretty standard fare - double cheeseburgers, fried chicken, ice cream - but I keep coming across things on the list that give me pause.

A short list:

209
Offender Information
Barnes, Jr.
Odell
998
03/01/2000

asked for

Justice, Equality, World Peace

160
Offender Information
Nobles
Jonathan
885
10/07/1998

asked for

Eucharist - Sacrament.

157
Offender Information
Teague, Jr.
Delbert
849
09/09/1998

asked for

None. Last minute he decided to eat a hamburger at his Mother's request.

55
Offender Information
Santana
Carlos
695
03/23/1993

asked for

Justice, Temperance, with Mercy

You can peruse the whole list here. It's horribly sad, though not quite as sad as reading the convict's final statements, which are also up online, though they shouldn't be, and which I will not provide the link to.

My favorite request was from a man who asked that a vegetarian pizza be donated to a local homeless person in lieu of receiving a meal himself. His request was denied, but a lot of people took time and money to make it happen after it became public, donating over $1,200 of pizza to the homeless.
