What did I actually listen to in the '90s? A shit ton of Elton John and B*Witched, from what I can remember. Fun fact: I recently found a list of dream dinner guests that I made when I was nine. Both of the aforementioned are on it, as well as Elizabeth I, my classroom pals from the fourth grade, and this guy:

^ Still holds.
Chris Farley was the funniest part of the '90s, even funnier than PSYCH! A close second was Dumb and Dumber, which I have discovered can be quoted from extensively by anyone you have ever met and will ever meet.
I was at a party at Glasslands a few months ago and heard the DJ put on something strangely familiar. Why did I know every word to this condescending jam about a vegetarian girlfriend?
Then I realized two things: Firstly, the song, "New Age Girl" by Deadeye Dick (?) was from the Dumb and Dumber soundtrack, which was the equivalent of, say, Alien Lanes to me back then. Secondly, the track and video together are basically all I actually remember about the decade in a nutshell: Jumpy bass, alternative assholes in bad sunglasses, and an aesthetic that makes it look like an episode of The Adventures of Pete and Pete.
I can't embed the real video, which you must watch here. Seriously, don't miss it. The jack o' lantern heads are perfect for Halloween! A secret? I still kind of like it, especially when he sings the first "Mary Moon" of the chorus. That "RUH!" will always be inexcusable, though.

How could you forget MMMBop? And that Dido song that made us all Eminem fans.
The "pete and pete" aesthetic was totally a jersey thing.
no good 90's nostalgia would be complete for me without mention of the lego mindstorms R2D2 robot that you could program and space jam. i never even cared about sports, but i got so amped about that opening song/sequence.
also worth noting, the music from pete and pete was something special and shaped of what i even like now. mark mulcahy and miracle legion minus one were Polaris, the house band for pete and pete who did the theme song and most of the background music heard through the series...
